New Brand

Getta1Games, the 4 year old game company with an award-winning lineup up of games, is getting a fresh new team and name: Roo Games.

“Australia is on our roots,” says Sales Director, Christina Callaghan, who was raised in Sydney. “Aussies love life and love to play. We are excited to bring that fun to Roo Games.”

Callaghan comes from a toy licensing background, having previously worked for brands like Star Wars, Hello Kitty, LEGO, and Smurfs. Prior to joining Roo Games, she spent four years in the beauty industry working with brands such as Estee Lauder, L’Oreal, and Shiseido. “We’re thrilled Christina is on-board,” says Tim Walsh, Roo Games co-founder. “She’s a great salesperson and brings an infectious enthusiasm to the team.”

New Look

Roo Games’ new creative direction comes courtesy of Creative and Marketing Director, Scott Brown. Brown was the co-founder and Chief Merchant at Marbles the Brain Store, a chain of retail stores that offered high-quality games and playthings that Brown carefully curated. In his nearly 9 years there, Brown was instrumental in growing the chain to 40 retail locations across the US and a thriving online business. Marbles the Brain Store assets were sold to Spin Master in 2017 and Brown worked as the VP of the Marbles brand at the toy giant for another 2 years before joining Roo Games.

“Scott has got a great eye for product and is one of the most creative toy people I know,” Walsh said. “He gives Roo Games a critical perspective as a former retailer. You add to that his two years of mass-market experience working at Spin Master, and you’ve got an indispensable addition to Roo Games.”

New Warehouse

Roo Games has also partnered with Learning Advantage (an Aussie-owned distributor that will act as the company’s warehouse in Cheyenne, Wyoming). Learning Advantage will distribute the Roo Games line along with Wild Science, the world-wide science kit brand known for STEM and hands-on learning. “Wild Science was co-founded by Dennis and Crystal Callaghan, Australians who have been successfully growing toy brands for over 34 years,” Walsh said. The addition of Wild Science gives the retail partners of Roo Games more options in terms of categories, but also economies of scale when it comes to shipping.

“We have a six Aussies and two Yanks at Roo Games,” said Walsh, who brings 30 years of his own product development and marketing experience to the company. “It’s our shared belief in the ability of play to teach and strengthen relationships that brings us together.“
